Love or loathe: Bend down select

Bend down select” is a slogan for cheap pre-owned clothes sold by the roadside and markets in Nigeria.

Bend down select clothes

They range from outerwear to inner wears and can be found in major markets across the country.

Over the years, these clothing items have been given all sort of names. The ajekpakos call it okrika , O.K, second hand, belgium while the ajebutters call it “Vintage” lol *SideEye.

There is a stigma attached to second hand clothes. Some people see it as clothes for the less privileged while some see it as a profitable avenue to get good quality at an awesome price.

Regardless of the falling of hand shame that may come with bending down to get second hand clothes at an open market after you might have made it known in your circle of friends at your are a gbo-gbo BIG GIRL lol

Some people say “The benefit afterwards is crazy because some second hand clothes are really beautiful and their durability is top notch”.

Others say “After all, who wouldn’t want an outfit they could wear for years and possibly pass down to their siblings instead of running up and down looking for a tailor to sew round a dress or shoe in the name of buying brand new ready made lol.

Some people swear they would never buy second hand clothes but you would still see them with their face caps and dark sunglasses for camouflage, knee deep in bend down select section of a market.

So, what are your thoughts on bend down select.

Would you rather eat a 3 day old worn smelling pair of socks for lunch than be caught buying bend down select?
